Botulinum Toxin (Botox)

As part of its aesthetic-medicine service, Dentis offers botulinum-toxin injections to soften dynamic expression lines such as frown lines, forehead creases and crow's feet. Carried out by lek. dent. Piotr Jurczyk, who also practises aesthetic medicine, the treatment relaxes the targeted muscles so the overlying skin creases less. Single areas are treated after a short consultation, with results that develop over a few days and last several months.

Botulinum toxin is an aesthetic-medicine treatment that temporarily reduces the activity of specific facial muscles. The lines that form when we frown, raise the eyebrows or squint are produced by repeated muscle movement; by easing how strongly those muscles contract, the skin above them folds less and existing dynamic lines soften over the days that follow. At Dentis the treatment is offered alongside the clinic's dentistry by lek. dent. Piotr Jurczyk, who practises aesthetic medicine in addition to dental care. Treatment starts with a short consultation to discuss which areas concern you — most commonly the frown lines between the brows, horizontal forehead lines and the crow's feet at the outer eyes — and to check that the treatment is appropriate for you. The injections themselves take only a few minutes using a fine needle and generally need no anaesthetic; normal activities can be resumed the same day, avoiding heat, vigorous exercise and lying flat for the rest of the day. The effect appears gradually over three to seven days and settles within about two weeks, typically lasting in the region of three to four months before muscle movement slowly returns and a repeat treatment can be considered. The aim is a refreshed, still-expressive appearance rather than a frozen look. Suitability, the areas to treat and the dose are agreed at consultation, and the treatment is not given during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
