3D CBCT Dental Scan

Type

CT Scan

Duration

20 min

A three-dimensional cone-beam CT (CBCT) scan that captures the teeth, jawbone, nerves and sinuses in detail far beyond a standard X-ray. Denticus uses in-house CBCT to plan dental implants, assess impacted wisdom teeth before surgery and investigate complex root canal anatomy. The scan is quick and can be carried out as a standalone diagnostic image, with panoramic and cephalometric X-rays also available.

Cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) is a dental imaging technique that produces a three-dimensional reconstruction of the teeth, jaws, nerve canals, sinuses and surrounding bone. Unlike a flat panoramic or periapical X-ray, a CBCT scan lets the dentist view structures from any angle and measure bone height, width and density precisely, which is why it has become a standard planning tool for more complex treatment. At Denticus, where diagnostic imaging is offered in-house, a CBCT scan is priced at 450 zł and is captured in a single short sitting. The clinic uses CBCT principally for implant planning — assessing whether there is enough bone for an implant and locating the inferior alveolar nerve and maxillary sinus to place it safely — and for surgical cases such as removing impacted wisdom teeth, where seeing the tooth's exact relationship to the nerve helps reduce surgical risk. It is also valuable in complex endodontics for identifying extra or curved root canals and assessing root fractures or persistent infection. Two-dimensional imaging remains available too, with panoramic (pantomogram) and cephalometric X-rays at 150 zł each. As with all radiographic imaging, scans are taken when clinically justified and the findings are reviewed with the patient as part of treatment planning. A detailed 3D scan is associated with more predictable planning of implants and oral surgery; the dentist determines whether a CBCT or a simpler X-ray is the appropriate image for a given case.
