Tooth Extraction

Type

Extraction

Duration

30 min

Removal of a tooth that cannot be saved, carried out under local anaesthetic by the clinic's oral surgery team. Dentica offers both straightforward and surgical extractions, along with options to protect the site afterwards — socket preservation to maintain the bone ridge for future implants, and PRF from your own blood to support healing. Baby-tooth extractions for children are also available.

An extraction is the removal of a tooth that is too damaged, decayed, broken or otherwise compromised to be restored, or that needs to come out for other clinical reasons. At Dentica extractions are performed under local anaesthetic by the surgical team. A simple extraction removes a tooth that is fully erupted and accessible, while a surgical extraction is used for teeth that are broken down at the gum line, have curved roots or are partly covered by gum or bone, and may involve a small incision to access the tooth. Looking after the socket after a tooth is removed can make later treatment easier. The clinic offers socket preservation, in which the empty socket is grafted to help maintain the height and width of the bone ridge — useful if a dental implant is planned for that site — as well as ridge smoothing to remove sharp bony edges, and PRF (platelet-rich fibrin) plugs or membranes prepared from your own blood to support healing of the wound. You will be given clear aftercare instructions to reduce the risk of complications such as a dry socket, including how to manage the area in the first day, what to eat and how to keep it clean. Baby-tooth extractions are available for children when needed. The dentist will always discuss whether the tooth can realistically be saved before recommending removal, and explain how the resulting gap can be replaced if appropriate.
