Root Canal Treatment (Microscope)

Type

Root Canal

Duration

2 hours

Microscope-assisted root canal treatment to save a tooth with infected or inflamed pulp, performed by certified endodontist Dr Aleksandra Cieślik-Kot. Working under magnification and rubber-dam isolation, the canals are cleaned, disinfected and sealed using modern radiovisiography to guide the process. Pricing is per tooth with additional canals charged separately, and a build-up or crown to restore the tooth is arranged afterwards.

Root canal (endodontic) treatment is used when the soft tissue inside a tooth — the pulp — becomes infected or irreversibly inflamed, often from deep decay, a crack or trauma. Rather than removing the tooth, the aim is to clean out the diseased pulp, disinfect and shape the root canal system and seal it, so the tooth can be kept and restored. At Dentica this work is carried out by Dr Aleksandra Cieślik-Kot, a member of the Polish (PTE) and European (ESE) endodontic societies who completed the PTE endodontic curriculum, using a dental operating microscope for a magnified, well-lit view of the canals. Treatment is performed under local anaesthetic with the tooth isolated by a rubber dam, which keeps the area clean and dry and protects you during the procedure. Digital radiovisiography is used to assess canal length and check progress, and the number of canals — and therefore the fee — varies between teeth, with each additional canal beyond the first priced separately. Where a previous root filling has failed, retreatment is possible, and the clinic also handles more complex situations such as removing a fractured instrument, sealing a perforation with MTA or managing canal resorption. After the canals are sealed the tooth is rebuilt; because endodontically treated back teeth can become brittle, a crown or onlay is often recommended to protect it, and these restorative steps are quoted separately. Saving a natural tooth where possible is generally preferred to extraction, and the dentist will explain the prognosis for your specific tooth at assessment.
