Porcelain Veneer

Type

Veneers

Duration

1 hour

A thin, custom ceramic veneer bonded to the front of a tooth to improve its shape, colour or alignment, used most often to enhance the appearance of the upper front teeth. At Dentica veneers are designed and milled with the CEREC CAD/CAM system for a precise fit and natural translucency. They suit patients wanting to refine discoloured, chipped, worn or slightly uneven front teeth as part of a planned smile improvement.

A porcelain veneer is a thin shell of dental ceramic that is bonded to the visible surface of a tooth to change its colour, shape, length or alignment. Veneers are mainly an aesthetic treatment for the front teeth, helping with concerns such as discolouration that does not respond to whitening, small chips, worn edges, minor gaps or slightly irregular tooth shape. Because only a small amount of the front of the tooth is usually adjusted to accommodate the veneer, the approach is more conservative than crowning a tooth. At Dentica veneers are planned and produced using the CEREC CAD/CAM system: the teeth are scanned and the veneers designed digitally before being milled from a ceramic block, which gives close control over shape and shade so the result looks natural alongside the neighbouring teeth. Treatment starts with a discussion of your goals and an assessment of whether veneers — or an alternative such as bonding, orthodontics or a crown — best suit your case. The teeth are lightly prepared, the veneers are made, and they are then bonded into place and checked for fit, colour and bite. Ceramic veneers resist staining well; as with all dental work, careful cleaning, avoiding habits such as biting hard objects, and regular reviews are associated with longer-lasting results. Where several front teeth are treated together, the dentist will plan the overall look so the teeth remain in harmony with your smile and face.
