Implant Crown (CAD/CAM)

Type

Dental Implants

Duration

1 hour

The restoration that sits on top of an integrated implant — a custom ceramic crown made with the clinic's CAD/CAM system and fixed to the implant via an abutment. At Dentica the crown is designed digitally and milled from ceramic for a natural shade and fit, with an individual zirconia abutment available for front teeth where appearance matters most. A temporary crown can be provided while the final restoration is prepared.

Once a dental implant has integrated with the bone, it needs a restoration to function as a tooth. An implant crown is a single ceramic tooth that attaches to the implant through a connecting piece called an abutment. At Dentica the crown is produced using a CEREC CAD/CAM workflow: the implant position is scanned, the crown is designed on screen and then milled from a ceramic block, which allows close control over shape, bite and colour so the result blends with the surrounding teeth. For visible front teeth the clinic offers an individually made zirconia abutment, which supports the crown while helping to avoid any greyish show-through at the gum line that can occur with metal components. Where treatment is staged, a temporary crown on a temporary abutment can be fitted so you are not left with a gap while the definitive restoration is finalised. Fitting the crown is straightforward and does not usually require anaesthetic; the dentist checks the contacts with neighbouring teeth and the bite before securing it. An implant crown restores the ability to bite and chew on that tooth and completes the implant treatment. Day-to-day care is the same as for natural teeth — thorough brushing, cleaning around the implant and attending regular hygiene reviews are associated with longer-lasting results. Suitability and the choice of abutment and materials are discussed as part of the overall implant plan.
