Root Canal
Duration
2 hours
Root canal treatment to clean, disinfect and seal the internal canals of a tooth whose pulp has become inflamed or infected, allowing a natural tooth to be kept rather than extracted. Pricing reflects tooth complexity, from single-canal front teeth to multi-canal molars, with the post-treatment composite rebuild quoted separately. Performed under local anaesthetic, which is included.
Endodontic, or root canal, treatment addresses a tooth whose inner pulp — the soft tissue containing nerves and blood vessels — has become inflamed or infected through deep decay, cracks or trauma. Left untreated this can cause pain and abscess formation, so the aim is to remove the diseased pulp, thoroughly clean and disinfect the fine canals inside the roots, and seal them to prevent reinfection, preserving the natural tooth in the mouth. At the clinic the treatment is carried out under local anaesthetic, which is included at no extra charge. The number of canals varies by tooth type, which is why pricing rises from front (anterior) teeth through premolars to molars; a molar with several curved canals takes more time and care than a single-rooted incisor. Where appropriate the tooth may first be devitalised before the canals are shaped and filled. Because a root-treated tooth has lost its internal blood supply it can become more brittle, so the clinic rebuilds the crown with a composite reconstruction after treatment and, for heavily broken-down teeth, a laboratory crown may be advised to protect it long-term. On-site 3D imaging supports accurate assessment of root anatomy. Aftercare guidance is provided, and the clinic's two-year warranty applies to its work. Keeping your own tooth is generally preferable to removing it, and root canal treatment is associated with good long-term outcomes when the tooth is properly restored afterwards.
