Type

Extraction

Duration

45 min

Removal of a tooth that is too damaged, decayed or impacted to save, carried out as gently as possible under local anaesthetic. Dental Corner uses cone-beam CT imaging to plan more complex and wisdom-tooth extractions and offers computer-controlled anaesthesia, nitrous-oxide sedation and general anaesthesia for comfort. The team also advises on replacing the tooth afterwards, including with an implant.

A tooth extraction is the removal of a tooth from its socket, recommended when a tooth cannot be saved by other means — for example because of extensive decay, a fracture below the gum, advanced gum disease, or an impacted wisdom tooth that is causing pain, infection or crowding. Although keeping a natural tooth is always preferred where possible, a well-managed extraction relieves pain and prevents infection from spreading. At Dental Corner straightforward extractions are carried out under local anaesthetic, with the tooth loosened and removed as atraumatically as possible to protect the surrounding bone, which matters if an implant is planned later. For wisdom teeth and other surgical cases, the clinic's own cone-beam CT imaging is used to see the tooth's roots and their relationship to nerves and sinuses before surgery, and the procedure may involve sectioning the tooth to remove it in pieces. Computer-controlled local anaesthesia, nitrous-oxide sedation and full general anaesthesia with an on-site anaesthesiologist are available, which is helpful for anxious patients or multiple extractions in one visit. A frenectomy — releasing a restrictive lip or tongue attachment — is also offered. After removal the dentist provides aftercare instructions to support healing and discusses options for replacing the tooth, such as an implant or bridge. Extraction suits patients with an unsalvageable or problematic tooth; the clinician reviews medical history, bleeding risk and imaging before proceeding.
