Composite Bonding

Composite bonding reshapes and restores front teeth by applying tooth-coloured resin directly to the tooth and sculpting it by hand in a single visit. It is used to repair chips, close small gaps, reshape uneven edges and improve colour without removing much, if any, enamel. Composite bonding is a direct cosmetic technique in which tooth-coloured resin is applied to a tooth and shaped by the dentist to improve its appearance, all in one appointment and usually without the laboratory stage that veneers and crowns require. It is well suited to repairing a chipped or worn edge, closing a small gap between front teeth, reshaping a tooth that is slightly out of proportion or masking minor discolouration. Because little or no enamel typically needs to be removed, bonding is largely reversible and is often chosen as a conservative, lower-cost route to improving a smile. At DEN-MED the surface is lightly prepared and an adhesive applied, then the composite is built up in layers, cured with a light, and finally trimmed and polished to blend with the surrounding teeth. The main trade-off compared with porcelain is that composite is more prone to staining and chipping over the years and may need occasional repair or repolishing, which the dentist will explain so expectations are realistic. Bonding suits adults whose front teeth are basically healthy and who want to refine their shape or colour with minimal intervention; where more substantial or stain-resistant change is wanted, porcelain veneers may be recommended instead.
