Tooth extraction is the removal of a tooth that can no longer be saved or is causing problems. It may be necessary when a tooth is too badly decayed or broken to restore, is loose because of advanced gum disease, is severely cracked, or — in the case of wisdom teeth — is impacted and causing pain, infection or crowding. The aim is always to remove the tooth as gently as possible while protecting the surrounding bone and gum.
