A custom-made crown that covers and protects a tooth that is heavily filled, cracked or weakened — for example after root-canal treatment — restoring its shape, strength and appearance. The tooth is prepared and an impression taken, and the laboratory-made crown is fitted at a later visit. Where a tooth is too broken to support a crown on its own, a post-and-core build-up can be added first. Crowns blend with the surrounding teeth for a natural result.
