A custom-made crown that covers and protects a tooth that is heavily filled, cracked or weakened — for example after root-canal treatment — restoring its shape, strength and appearance. The tooth is prepared and an impression taken, and the laboratory-made crown is fitted at a later visit. Where a tooth is too broken to support a crown on its own, a post-and-core build-up can be added first. Crowns blend with the surrounding teeth for a natural result.
A dental crown is a custom-made cap that fits over the whole visible part of a tooth, rebuilding its natural shape while protecting what remains underneath. Crowns are commonly recommended when a tooth is too damaged for a simple filling — heavily decayed, cracked, worn down, or weakened after root-canal treatment — because covering the tooth distributes biting forces and reduces the chance of further breakage. At Klinika Delicadent the process usually takes two visits. At the first, the dentist removes any decay or old filling material, shapes the tooth to make room for the crown, and takes a precise impression that is sent to the dental laboratory; a temporary crown protects the tooth in the meantime. At the second visit the finished crown is checked for fit, bite and colour, then cemented into place. Where a tooth has lost a large amount of structure — often the case after endodontic treatment — a post-and-core (wkład koronowo-korzeniowy) can be placed inside the root first to give the crown a stable foundation. Modern crown materials are colour-matched to the neighbouring teeth so the result looks natural. A well-made crown that is kept clean and not used to bite very hard objects can last for many years. The same crown technique is also used to restore dental implants as a separate stage. The dentist will discuss material choices and whether a build-up is needed at the planning appointment.
