Zirconia Crown

A crown is a custom-made cap that covers a damaged, heavily filled or root-treated tooth to restore its shape, strength and appearance. Ddent offers zirconia crowns, which use a strong, metal-free ceramic that transmits light naturally and suits both front and back teeth. The tooth is prepared and an impression taken, and the finished crown is cemented at a later visit; a post-and-core may be added first where a tooth has been weakened by root canal treatment.

A dental crown restores a tooth that is too broken down, decayed or heavily restored to be repaired with a simple filling. It fits over the whole visible part of the tooth like a tailored cap, rebuilding its shape and biting surface and protecting what remains of the natural structure. Zirconia is a high-strength ceramic that contains no metal; its translucency mimics natural enamel reasonably well, which makes it a popular choice for visible teeth as well as for molars that must withstand heavier chewing forces. At Ddent the tooth is first prepared by removing decay and shaping it to receive the crown; where a tooth has been root-treated or substantially weakened, a post-and-core build-up may be placed to give the crown a stable foundation. An impression or digital scan is taken so the crown can be made to fit precisely and match the surrounding teeth, and a temporary crown may protect the tooth in the meantime. At a subsequent visit the finished zirconia crown is checked for fit, bite and shade and then cemented in place.
