Professional teeth whitening lightens the natural shade of the teeth using a peroxide-based gel that breaks down stains within the enamel and dentine. In the in-office method used at Ddent, the lips and gums are isolated and protected, a higher-strength gel is applied to the teeth, and a Beyond accelerator lamp is used to help activate it, allowing a visible change to be achieved during a single appointment. The treatment addresses generalised discolouration and yellowing from ageing, coffee, tea, red wine and other dietary sources; it does not change the colour of fillings, crowns or veneers, which is taken into account when planning.
