The Essential Plus Health Evaluation is DC Bled's principal single-day preventive programme, delivered on Thursdays at the Vila Urbana clinic in Ljubljana. Patients arrive at 10:15 in the morning and complete the full assessment by approximately 19:00, with a lunch break included in the programme fee. The day opens with an initial consultation with an internal medicine specialist who takes a structured medical history, reviews risk factors, and sets the context for interpreting results. A comprehensive blood and urine laboratory panel follows, covering full blood count, liver and kidney function tests, lipid profile, blood glucose, thyroid function, and inflammatory markers — the core biochemistry needed to flag metabolic, hepatic, renal, and endocrine abnormalities at an early, asymptomatic stage. Cardiac evaluation includes a resting electrocardiogram and an exercise stress test, providing both structural and functional cardiac information. Spirometry assesses lung capacity and airflow limitation. The imaging component spans carotid artery ultrasound for early atherosclerosis detection, cardiac echocardiography, abdominal ultrasound of the liver, pancreas, kidneys, and spleen, and thyroid ultrasound. Men receive testicular ultrasound and a urology consultation; women receive breast ultrasound and a gynaecology consultation. Dermatological skin assessment is included for both genders. Upper digestive endoscopy (gastroscopy) is integrated into the programme, providing direct mucosal visualisation of the oesophagus, stomach, and proximal duodenum — an investigation increasingly relevant for early gastric cancer screening and Helicobacter pylori assessment in Central and Eastern European populations where gastric disease prevalence is higher than in Western markets. The programme concludes with a closing consultation summarising all findings, prioritising any follow-up investigations, and providing written documentation of all results.
