Laser hair removal at EpiCentre Skin Care Center provides permanent reduction of unwanted hair using FDA-cleared laser devices that target melanin in the hair follicle with focused light energy. The laser's chromophore in the procedure is the melanin pigment in the hair shaft and follicle — the light is preferentially absorbed by darker melanin, converting to heat that damages the follicle and inhibits future hair growth without significantly affecting surrounding skin structures. Because this mechanism depends on the contrast between follicle melanin and skin pigment, the highest success rates are historically achieved in patients with fair skin and dark hair; however, EpiCentre's device portfolio — which includes wavelengths and pulse parameters suited to a range of skin tones — extends effective treatment to darker skin types (Fitzpatrick III–V) with appropriate parameter selection and pre-treatment evaluation. Common treatment areas include the face (upper lip, chin, sideburns), underarms, arms, legs (partial or full), bikini line and Brazilian area, back, chest, and abdomen. Hair grows in cycles of anagen (active), catagen (transitional), and telogen (resting) phases; laser hair removal is only effective on follicles in the active growth (anagen) phase when the follicle is fully connected to the hair shaft and melanin is concentrated. This is why multiple sessions — typically six to eight spaced four to eight weeks apart for the face and six to twelve weeks for the body — are required to achieve a comprehensive result as follicles cycle through anagen at different times. After a full initial course, touch-up sessions annually or biannually address any fine residual regrowth. Sessions are preceded by topical numbing cream for comfort. Treatments are available at both the Dallas main campus (Suite 500, 9101 N. Central Expressway) and the Plano Legacy EpiCentre.
