Paternity & Kinship DNA Test

Type

Genetic Testing

Duration

20 min

The laboratory provides DNA paternity and kinship testing using standard STR profiling of buccal swab or blood samples. A personal (informational) test answers the question privately for the participants, while the expert test follows a documented chain-of-custody procedure so the result is admissible as evidence in court and official proceedings. Both establish biological relationship with very high statistical certainty.

DNA relationship testing compares short tandem repeat (STR) markers across the genome between the tested individuals. Because each person inherits half of their DNA from each biological parent, comparing a child's profile with an alleged father's profile establishes or excludes paternity with very high statistical certainty. The same approach extends to wider kinship questions such as sibling, grandparent, or other relationship analyses. Two service levels are offered. The personal (informational) test is intended for private peace of mind: samples — typically buccal (cheek) swabs — can be provided more flexibly and the result is for the participants' own information only. The expert test is conducted under a strict chain-of-custody protocol, with verified identity and documented sample collection, producing a report that meets the standards required for use in court, immigration, inheritance, or other official matters. Results report a probability of relationship (or exclusion) based on the combined STR marker comparison. The laboratory advises on the appropriate service level and the samples required depending on whether the result is needed informally or for legal use.
