This programme investigates cardiovascular health from four complementary angles: electrical conduction, structural anatomy, functional performance, and coronary vessel imaging. Each modality captures different aspects of cardiac function, and together they provide a more complete picture than any single test. The resting ECG records the heart's electrical activity at baseline, identifying rhythm disturbances, conduction delays, and patterns suggestive of ischaemia or prior damage. The echocardiogram uses ultrasound to visualise the heart in real time, measuring chamber dimensions, wall thickness, valve function, and ejection fraction — the percentage of blood expelled with each heartbeat. The cardiac stress test monitors the heart's response to exercise, typically on a treadmill or bicycle ergometer, looking for ECG changes, blood pressure responses, and symptoms that may indicate reduced blood flow to the heart muscle under exertion. This is particularly valuable because coronary artery disease often produces no symptoms at rest but reveals itself during physical demand. Cardiac CT adds anatomical imaging of the coronary arteries, visualising calcification, plaque burden, and narrowing that may not yet cause symptoms or stress test abnormalities. The combination of functional testing with anatomical imaging is a strategy increasingly recommended in cardiology guidelines for comprehensive risk assessment.
