Otoplasty (Ear Correction)

Otoplasty, or ear correction, reshapes and repositions prominent or protruding ears to sit closer to the head in a natural, balanced position. It is a long-established procedure performed on both adults and older children who are self-conscious about ears that stick out. It is one of the few aesthetic procedures commonly performed in childhood, often around school age once the ears have reached near-adult size, but it is equally effective in adults who have lived with self-consciousness about their ears. The surgeon works through an incision placed in the crease behind the ear, where the resulting scar is hidden from view. The cartilage is reshaped to recreate the missing fold and, where needed, the conchal bowl is reduced or repositioned, then secured with sutures so the ear sits closer to the head at a natural angle.
