Permanent Laser Hair Removal — MeDioStar Diode

Type

Hair Removal

Duration

30 min

Permanent hair reduction at CLED uses the MeDioStar high-power diode laser, one of the leading medical diode platforms developed for year-round treatment — including on tanned and darker skin types where many other laser systems carry elevated risk. The system's active cooling technology and dual-pulse delivery make sessions more comfortable than older diode platforms. MUDr. Miloslava Moskalyková treats all body areas and uses the clinic's 25-plus years of laser experience to calibrate fluence, pulse width and cooling settings precisely to each patient's skin phototype and hair characteristics.

Laser hair removal is built on the principle of selective photothermolysis: the diode laser emits at a wavelength preferentially absorbed by melanin in the hair shaft and follicle, heating the follicle to a temperature that damages or destroys it while the surrounding skin tissue — far lower in melanin — absorbs comparatively little energy and is not harmed. Only follicles in the active anagen growth phase can be disabled in any given session, which is why a course of six to eight treatments spaced four to eight weeks apart (depending on the body area and its hair cycle characteristics) is needed to progressively treat successive cohorts of follicles. At CLED the platform of choice is the MeDioStar by Asclepion, a high-power medical-grade diode laser distinguished by two features important in clinical practice. First, it incorporates an active contact-cooling system that chills the skin surface during the laser pulse, reducing epidermal heat accumulation and making treatment significantly more comfortable than older diode devices that required post-pulse cooling only. Second, its dual-pulse technology allows a long pre-heating pulse to gently warm the follicle followed by a shorter destruction pulse — a combination that increases efficacy while keeping surface temperatures controlled. These characteristics together allow MUDr. Moskalyková to treat patients with tanned skin and darker skin phototypes (Fitzpatrick IV–V) year-round, a capability that was historically confined to Nd:YAG 1064 nm systems. The treatment area is shaved before each session (not waxed or plucked — surface stubble allows light to travel unimpeded to the follicle). MUDr. Moskalyková applies cooling gel and passes the handpiece systematically across the treatment zone in slightly overlapping passes. Patients typically describe a snapping sensation with each pulse, diminishing across sessions as the treated follicle population decreases. Immediately after treatment the follicles swell and appear as tiny raised bumps — follicular oedema — which subsides within an hour or two. Redness resolves similarly within hours. Typical permanent reduction after a full course is 80–90% in treated areas. Face, underarms and bikini areas with active hormonal drive may require occasional maintenance sessions annually. Contraindications include recent sun exposure, isotretinoin use, active skin infection and uncontrolled photosensitising medication. MUDr. Moskalyková screens all patients before the first session and adjusts settings accordingly.
