Measures C-reactive protein — a key marker of systemic inflammation produced by the liver in response to inflammatory signals. Elevated CRP is associated with increased cardiovascular risk, active infection, autoimmune flares, and chronic low-grade inflammation linked to metabolic syndrome and accelerated ageing. One of the most widely used and affordable inflammation markers in clinical and longevity medicine.

C-reactive protein (CRP) is produced by the liver in response to inflammatory signals from immune cells throughout the body. It is one of the most widely used and affordable inflammation markers in clinical practice, and it has gained significant attention in longevity medicine as chronic low-grade inflammation — sometimes called inflammaging — is increasingly recognised as a driver of cardiovascular disease, neurodegeneration, cancer, and accelerated ageing. Standard CRP testing detects moderate to high levels of inflammation associated with active infection, autoimmune flares, and tissue injury. High-sensitivity CRP (hs-CRP) measures much lower concentrations, making it useful for cardiovascular risk stratification. The American Heart Association classifies hs-CRP below 1.0 mg/L as low cardiovascular risk, 1.0-3.0 as moderate, and above 3.0 as high — independent of cholesterol levels. Elevated CRP does not identify the source of inflammation — it is a nonspecific marker that signals the immune system is active somewhere. Common causes include visceral obesity (fat tissue is metabolically active and produces inflammatory cytokines), periodontal disease, chronic infection, autoimmune conditions, sleep deprivation, and excessive alcohol. A single elevated reading warrants repeat testing to distinguish chronic elevation from a transient spike caused by recent illness or injury. No fasting is required. ClearLabs delivers results within 2-3 business days through the digital dashboard. For longevity tracking, serial CRP measurements every 3-6 months provide a useful trend line that reflects the cumulative impact of dietary changes, exercise, stress management, and sleep optimisation on systemic inflammation.
