Claraspital Basel Radiology

The Radiology department at Claraspital Basel provides the full spectrum of CT diagnostics as an outpatient service open to external referrals and self-pay patients. Claraspital is one of four acute-care hospitals in Basel, operating as a private Catholic foundation with a strong focus on abdominal, oncological, and cardiovascular medicine. The radiology team uses two Dual-Layer Spectral CT scanners — a technology that captures simultaneous high- and low-energy X-ray data to characterise tissue composition, distinguish uric acid from calcium deposits in kidney stones and joints, improve vascular and tumour contrast, and reduce contrast agent doses. Cardiac imaging is a particular strength, supported by the Kardiologie department: coronary CT angiography (Koronar-CT) maps the coronary arteries non-invasively to detect stenosis and plaque, while TAVI-CT provides pre-procedural planning for transcatheter aortic valve replacement. Calcium scoring (CAC) is available as a standalone cardiovascular risk assessment. The Clarunis university abdominal centre partnership makes Claraspital one of the leading Swiss centres for CT-enterography and virtual colonoscopy. The radiologists accept both physician-referred and self-referred patients Monday through Friday. Examinations are reported by subspecialty-matched radiologists, with same-day or next-day turnaround for most outpatient studies. The department is located at the Kleinriehenstrasse campus in Kleinbasel, approximately 10 minutes from Basel SBB railway station.
