The WAW system uses an oscillating — rather than rotating — cylindrical punch with a sharp bevel (0.8 mm to 1 mm outer diameter), which Dr. Linkov and colleagues have found produces a lower transection rate of approximately 4–6% compared to the 10–20% typical of earlier rotary FUE devices. Lower transection preserves graft viability and increases the number of intact follicular units available for implantation. Dr. Linkov performs all FUE personally — not delegated to surgical technicians — which City Facial Plastics considers a differentiator in the New York market where high-volume transplant centres may allocate harvesting to non-physician staff. The donor area is most commonly the permanent scalp zone at the occiput and temporal fringe; for patients with insufficient scalp donor density, beard hair and body hair (chest, abdomen) may supplement the scalp supply. Beyond standard androgenetic alopecia restoration, City Facial Plastics offers eyebrow transplant (using finer calibre grafts and angled placement to match the natural brow hair direction), beard transplant (for scar coverage or beard densification), and pubic hair transplant (for patients with post-surgical, radiation, or alopecia-related hair loss in that area).
