Cienega Medical offers CoolSculpting Elite — the second-generation cryolipolysis system from Allergan Aesthetics — for non-surgical reduction of subcutaneous fat in treatment-resistant areas that do not respond adequately to diet and exercise. CoolSculpting works on the principle of cryolipolysis: the targeted delivery of precisely controlled cooling to subcutaneous fat tissue through a vacuum applicator draws the fat layer into the applicator cup where it is cooled to temperatures between -11°C and +5°C. Adipocytes (fat cells) undergo a process of cryoapoptosis — a cold-induced programmed cell death — at these temperatures, while the overlying skin, nerves, and other tissue types are not structurally damaged because they have different cold-sensitivity thresholds. Over the two to three months following a session, the body's immune system gradually removes the disrupted adipocytes via phagocytosis, reducing the fat layer thickness in the treated zone by approximately 20–25% per session. The CoolSculpting Elite upgrade over the original CoolSculpting system includes redesigned applicator cups with a 18% larger treatment surface area and a 360-degree cooling configuration that contacts more of the fat layer simultaneously, associated with improved conformity to body contours and more even fat reduction across the treatment zone. The Elite system also includes a dual applicator capability, allowing two treatment zones (e.g. both flanks, or the inner thighs bilaterally) to be treated simultaneously in a single session — halving the total time required for multi-area treatments.
