Tooth Extraction

Type

Extraction

Duration

30 min

Tooth extraction is the removal of a tooth that cannot be saved or is causing problems, carried out under local anaesthetic. Chodyra Clinic offers both straightforward extractions and surgical removal of more difficult teeth, including impacted and wisdom teeth, supported by in-house imaging. Where a tooth is removed, the dentist can also discuss replacement options such as an implant.

A tooth extraction may be needed when a tooth is too badly decayed or broken to restore, is severely loosened by gum disease, is impacted, or is causing crowding, infection or pain. Simple extractions remove a tooth that is fully erupted and accessible, while surgical extractions are used for teeth that are broken at the gum line, impacted or otherwise difficult to remove — including wisdom teeth — and may involve gently sectioning the tooth or releasing a little gum tissue to remove it cleanly. At Chodyra Clinic extractions are performed under local anaesthetic in a calm, low-stress environment, with the clinic's in-house cone-beam CT and other digital imaging available to assess root shape and the position of nerves and sinuses before any surgical removal. The dentist explains what to expect, carries out the extraction and provides clear aftercare instructions to support healing and reduce the risk of complications such as a dry socket. Because the practice specialises in implantology, it can also plan ahead for tooth replacement at the same consultation where appropriate, discussing whether an implant, bridge or denture would best fill the gap. Extraction is recommended only when a tooth genuinely cannot be saved or its removal benefits overall oral health; the dentist will always review whether a tooth can be preserved first.
