Even with good brushing, plaque hardens over time into tartar (calculus) that can only be removed professionally, and a build-up along the gum line is a major driver of gum inflammation, bleeding and bad breath. A regular hygiene visit clears these deposits and surface stains, leaving the mouth fresher and giving the gums the best chance to stay healthy — and it is also an opportunity to spot early problems. At ChilliDent hygiene is offered using Guided Biofilm Therapy (GBT), a structured, minimally abrasive protocol. The teeth are first painted with a harmless disclosing agent that reveals where plaque (biofilm) is hiding, so nothing is missed; gentle air-polishing with a fine powder and warm water then removes the biofilm and stains, and any hardened tartar is taken off with ultrasonic instruments. A full hygienisation can also include polishing and a fluoride application to strengthen the enamel surface. For patients on a maintenance routine, individual elements — scaling, air-polishing or fluoride — can be booked on their own. The treatment is suitable for most adults and is typically recommended once or twice a year, or more often for those prone to tartar or managing gum disease; the clinic also offers deeper periodontal procedures where needed.
