Root Canal
Duration
1 hour
Root canal treatment carried out under a dental microscope to clean, disinfect and seal the inside of a tooth whose nerve has become inflamed or infected, allowing the tooth to be saved rather than extracted. Magnification helps the dentist find and treat the fine root canals accurately. Re-treatment is available for teeth that need a previous root filling redone, and a protective crown is usually advised afterwards.
Root canal (endodontic) treatment is needed when the soft tissue inside a tooth — the pulp, which contains the nerve and blood supply — becomes inflamed or infected, often through deep decay, a crack or trauma. Left untreated this can cause pain and abscesses, but the tooth can usually be saved by removing the damaged pulp, cleaning and disinfecting the root canal system and sealing it. At Centrum Stomatologiczne dr Jadczyk endodontic treatment is performed under a dental operating microscope, whose magnification and illumination help the dentist locate even fine or hidden canals, clean them thoroughly and treat the tooth with greater precision than is possible with the naked eye. Treatment is carried out under local anaesthetic and may take one or more visits depending on the tooth and the number of canals. The clinic also offers endodontic re-treatment, where a tooth that was root-treated previously but has not healed is reopened, the old filling material removed and the canals cleaned and re-sealed — a more involved procedure, priced from 1,400 zł. Because a root-treated tooth can become more brittle, a crown is frequently recommended afterwards to protect it and restore full function, and this is quoted separately. Saving a natural tooth through root canal treatment is generally preferable to extraction where the tooth is restorable. Your dentist will confirm the diagnosis, often with imaging, and explain the expected number of visits and the aftercare at the start of treatment.
