Ceramic Inlay / Onlay

A laboratory-made ceramic inlay or onlay that restores a tooth with a larger cavity or fracture more durably than a direct filling, while preserving more of the natural tooth than a full crown. Custom-made to fit the prepared cavity precisely and bonded into place, it rebuilds the biting surface with a strong, natural-looking ceramic. A composite version is also available at a lower cost.

Inlays and onlays are custom-made restorations used when a tooth has a cavity or damage too extensive for a simple direct filling, but where the tooth is sound enough that a full crown would remove more healthy structure than necessary. An inlay sits within the contours of the tooth, while an onlay also rebuilds one or more of the cusps (the raised biting points). At Centrum Stomatologiczne dr Jadczyk the preferred material is ceramic, which is hard-wearing, resistant to staining and colour-matched to the tooth for a natural finish. The tooth is prepared and an impression or digital scan taken, from which the laboratory fabricates the inlay or onlay to fit precisely; it is then bonded firmly into place at a second visit. Because the restoration is made outside the mouth and shaped accurately, it restores the tooth's strength and biting surface well and tends to be longer-lasting than a large direct filling, which can be more prone to wear or leakage over time. A composite inlay/onlay is offered as a more economical alternative at 1,900 zł.
