Carolina Medical Center's sports medicine department operates under the hospital's FIFA Medical Centre of Excellence designation — a credential held by only two facilities in Poland and awarded to centres that meet FIFA's standards for sports injury prevention, treatment, and research. The department's physicians have direct experience treating Olympic athletes, national team members, professional footballers, and competitive athletes across disciplines. A sports medicine consultation typically begins with a detailed history of the presenting injury or concern, training load analysis, and review of any prior imaging. The physician performs a targeted physical examination using sport-specific provocation tests — for example, Lachman and pivot-shift testing for suspected ACL injuries, or impingement and instability testing for shoulder complaints. Depending on findings, the consultation may lead to on-site imaging (MRI or CT), a referral for physiotherapy and rehabilitation, or a surgical opinion from one of the hospital's orthopedic surgeons. The department has particular depth in knee injuries (ACL reconstruction, meniscal repair, cartilage restoration), shoulder pathology (arthroscopic stabilisation, rotator cuff repair), and return-to-play protocols. Consultations are available in Polish, English, and Russian. International patients can initiate the process by sending medical records and DICOM images to the international patient department, who will arrange a preliminary assessment before the in-person visit.
