The Philips Brilliance CT 40 is a multi-detector computed tomography system capable of acquiring 40 slices per rotation, providing rapid volumetric imaging with sub-millimetre resolution. This level of detail is essential for the hospital's core surgical specialties — orthopedics and spine surgery — where CT imaging plays a complementary role to MRI in pre-operative planning. In the orthopedic context, CT excels at demonstrating bony anatomy, fracture patterns, and hardware positioning. For spine surgery cases, CT myelography and thin-slice reconstructions help surgeons plan approaches for disc herniation, spinal stenosis, and stabilisation procedures. The scanner also supports standard chest and abdominal imaging for general diagnostic workup. Contrast-enhanced studies use intravenous iodinated contrast agents and require a brief clinical screening beforehand. Most non-contrast scans are completed in under 15 minutes of actual scanning time, though total appointment duration is typically 30 minutes to allow for positioning and any contrast administration.
