Prostate MRI at Capio Privathospital uses the Hellerup campus's Philips 1.5-Tesla scanner to produce detailed images of the prostate gland, seminal vesicles, and surrounding pelvic structures. The multiparametric protocol typically includes T2-weighted anatomical sequences, diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI), and dynamic contrast-enhanced (DCE) imaging — the three complementary sequences used in the PI-RADS classification system for prostate cancer detection and staging. MRI has become an increasingly important tool in the prostate cancer diagnostic pathway, particularly for men with elevated PSA who want imaging-based risk stratification before considering biopsy. A low-suspicion MRI result may allow a strategy of active surveillance and PSA monitoring rather than proceeding directly to invasive tissue sampling. Conversely, a high-suspicion finding on MRI enables targeted biopsy of the specific lesion rather than the systematic but less precise random sampling approach. The scan is also valuable for monitoring men who are already on active surveillance for low-grade prostate cancer, tracking known lesions for changes in size or imaging characteristics that might indicate progression. The price of DKK 4,080 is subject to the standard 5% patient insurance surcharge. Intravenous contrast medium, if clinically required for the dynamic contrast-enhanced sequences, is available as a supplement.
