Ear Correction (Otoplasty)

Surgical correction of protruding or irregularly shaped ears at BODY klinika, performed under local anaesthesia as an outpatient procedure with no hospitalisation required. Otoplasty reshapes the ear cartilage through incisions hidden at the back of the ear, setting the ear closer to the head and restoring a natural contour using permanent sutures and controlled cartilage reshaping. Prominent ears are caused by underdevelopment of the antihelical fold, excess conchal bowl cartilage, or a combination of both — all of which set the ear at too great an angle from the head. Otoplasty (ear pinning surgery) corrects these structural problems through a posterior (behind-the-ear) incision that remains invisible once healed. At BODY klinika, the procedure is performed under local anaesthesia as an outpatient. The surgeon exposes the cartilage through the posterior incision and uses a combination of permanent sutures to recreate or reinforce the antihelical fold, and cartilage scoring or excision to reduce conchal excess where needed. The ear is set into its corrected position and held with mattress sutures through the cartilage. The posterior skin is closed with fine sutures; the scar lies in the retroauricular sulcus and is inconspicuous within a few weeks. Permanent results are achieved in a single procedure. Patients wear a protective headband over the ears for several weeks to protect the result while tissue heals. The procedure is suitable from childhood (when the ear cartilage has matured sufficiently, typically from age 5–6) through adulthood — children under 10 may qualify for coverage by Czech public health insurance, though the clinic does not hold an insurance contract and advises patients to check this arrangement before proceeding.
