Surgery takes place under general anaesthesia with one to two nights of in-clinic hospitalisation, a physician available around the clock, and nursing care throughout. Discharge is followed by six or more weeks in a compression bra day and night; vigorous sports are restricted for eight to ten weeks. Sea swimming and submersion are avoided for six weeks. Most patients find childcare manageable within a week of discharge.
