Abdominoplasty addresses what diet and exercise cannot reverse: the stretched, loose skin and weakened abdominal wall that commonly follow pregnancy or substantial weight loss. The procedure removes a panel of excess skin from the lower abdomen — extending between the hip bones, low enough for the resulting scar to sit below a swimsuit or underwear line — and tightens the rectus fascia if the abdominal muscles have separated (diastasis recti), which is common after multiple pregnancies. The navel is repositioned through a new incision to maintain a natural appearance after the skin is resected.
