Laser Hair Removal — Diode 808 nm

Laser hair removal at Beauty Clinic Synergy uses the Italian Laser Modula DL 808 diode laser — operating at 808 nm, the wavelength most selectively absorbed by melanin in the hair follicle, with integrated HPC cooling that allows faster treatment passes than older systems. The 808 nm wavelength penetrates to the bulb and bulge of the hair follicle, where the intense heat destroys the follicle while leaving the surrounding skin intact. Diode laser hair removal at 808 nm represents the evidence-based gold standard for permanent hair reduction across the widest range of skin tones and hair colours, superior to IPL and Nd:YAG for most patients. The principle is selective photothermolysis: the 808 nm wavelength is strongly absorbed by melanin in the hair shaft and follicle but is relatively transparent to the surrounding dermis and epidermis at the correct fluence and pulse duration, allowing the heat to remain localised within the target structure. The follicular bulge and bulb — the structures responsible for hair regeneration — are heated above the threshold for irreversible thermal damage (70–80 °C), permanently impairing their ability to produce new hair. Because this mechanism depends on melanin contrast between the hair and surrounding skin, darker hair on lighter skin responds most predictably; the Modula DL 808 at Synergy is a high-energy system capable of treating darker skin tones (Fitzpatrick IV–V) that cannot be safely treated with some IPL devices. Preparation requires shaving (not waxing, plucking or depilatory cream) 1–2 days before each session; avoiding fresh tan and photosensitising medications during the course; and applying SPF 50+ for two weeks after each session.
