Lip augmentation using injectable hyaluronic acid dermal filler to add volume, define the lip border (vermilion border), and improve symmetry. Performed with fine-gauge cannula or needle technique depending on the treatment goal and anatomy.
Hyaluronic acid lip augmentation is the most requested filler procedure in aesthetic medicine worldwide, and for good reason: hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring glycosaminoglycan already present in human skin and connective tissue, which makes it biocompatible and fully reversible with hyaluronidase enzyme if adjustment is needed. At BeauMED, lip filler treatments use cross-linked HA gels specifically formulated for the lip region — softer and more flexible than fillers designed for cheeks or jawline — to produce results that look and feel natural. The treatment begins with a detailed assessment of the patient's lip anatomy, including the ratio between upper and lower lip, the projection of the cupid's bow, the definition of the vermilion border, and the presence of any asymmetry. The practitioner discusses the patient's goals — whether they want subtle volume enhancement, improved definition without significant volume change, or a more dramatic augmentation — and plans the injection technique accordingly. Injection can be performed using a fine needle or a blunt-tipped cannula, depending on the specific goal and the practitioner's assessment. Needle technique offers precise placement for border definition and cupid's bow enhancement. Cannula technique reduces bruising risk and is preferred for volumising the lip body. Most lip treatments use a combination of both. A topical or injected local anaesthetic is applied before the procedure, and many modern HA fillers contain integrated lidocaine for additional comfort during injection. Results are visible immediately, though mild swelling in the first 48 to 72 hours means the final shape settles over approximately two weeks. The filler integrates with the surrounding tissue and hydrates over the first few days as the HA molecules attract water. Duration of effect is typically 6 to 12 months depending on the product used, the patient's metabolism, and the volume injected. Touch-up sessions can be scheduled to maintain or gradually build the result over time.
