BroadBand Light (BBL) by Sciton is an advanced intense pulsed light (IPL) platform that delivers non-coherent, polychromatic light across a broad spectrum of wavelengths, with interchangeable cut-off filters that allow the practitioner to selectively target different chromophores in the skin. For photorejuvenation, the primary targets are melanin (responsible for brown spots, freckles, and uneven pigmentation) and oxyhaemoglobin (responsible for redness, broken capillaries, and diffuse facial flushing). By selecting the appropriate filter and adjusting the energy fluence, pulse duration, and cooling parameters, the practitioner can address both pigmentary and vascular concerns in the same session. The mechanism of action is selective photothermolysis: the light energy is preferentially absorbed by the target chromophore, converting to heat that damages the target structure while sparing surrounding tissue.
