Dental Crown (Porcelain / Full-Ceramic)

Type

Crowns & Bridges

Duration

1 hour

A dental crown is a custom-made cap that covers a damaged, heavily filled or root-treated tooth to restore its shape, strength and appearance. ASP Stomatologia offers porcelain-fused-to-metal crowns and metal-free full-ceramic crowns, the latter prized for a natural look on visible teeth. A temporary crown protects the tooth while the final one is made. Crowns are a long-established way to rebuild a tooth that a filling alone can no longer support.

A crown is an individually fabricated restoration that fits over the whole visible part of a tooth, effectively rebuilding it when too much natural structure has been lost to decay, fracture or large old fillings, or after root canal treatment has left the tooth brittle. At ASP Stomatologia the tooth is prepared by removing damaged tissue and shaping it to receive the crown, an impression is taken, and a temporary crown is fitted to protect the tooth and maintain appearance while the laboratory makes the permanent one. At a second visit the final crown is checked for fit, bite and colour and then cemented in place. The clinic offers two main options. A porcelain-fused-to-metal crown has a strong metal core under a tooth-coloured porcelain surface, combining durability with a reasonable appearance, and is a cost-effective choice particularly for back teeth. A full-ceramic crown contains no metal and transmits light more like a natural tooth, giving a superior aesthetic result that is well suited to front and other visible teeth. Both restore the tooth's function for chewing and protect what remains of the natural structure. With good oral hygiene and regular check-ups, crowns are associated with many years of reliable service. The dentist will advise which material suits the tooth in question, taking into account its position, the bite and your appearance preferences, and explain the steps and timing before starting.
