How it works: The laser or IPL emits a pulse of light absorbed selectively by the melanin in the hair shaft and follicle. The heat generated travels down the shaft to the follicle bulge and bulb, disabling the follicle's ability to produce new hair without damaging the surrounding skin. Because only follicles in the active growth phase (anagen) are susceptible, multiple sessions are needed to capture each follicle at the right time.

Number of sessions and spacing: 4–5 sessions are typically required for permanent 80–90% reduction. Sessions must be spaced 5–8 weeks apart on the face and 8–12 weeks on the body, to match the hair growth cycles of each area.
