Porcelain Veneers

Thin porcelain shells bonded to the front of the teeth to improve their shape, colour and alignment. They suit discoloured, chipped, worn or slightly crooked front teeth and are planned tooth by tooth so the result stays in proportion with your smile and face.

Porcelain veneers are custom ceramic laminates, fractions of a millimetre thick, bonded to the visible surface of the front teeth to change their colour, shape, length or position. Because porcelain reproduces the translucency and light-reflecting quality of natural enamel, well-made veneers blend convincingly with the surrounding teeth. They are a popular way to address discolouration that does not respond to whitening, chips and worn edges, small gaps, and teeth that look slightly uneven, without the extent of treatment a crown involves. At ArtisMed treatment starts with a discussion of your goals and an assessment of the teeth and gums. A small amount of enamel is usually prepared to make room for the veneer and to give a natural emergence, impressions are taken, and the veneers are fabricated by a dental laboratory; temporary veneers can protect the teeth in the meantime. At the fitting appointment the dentist checks the fit, shape and shade before bonding each veneer with dental adhesive. Veneers are strong but, like natural teeth, can chip under heavy biting forces, so a night guard may be advised if you grind your teeth, and habits such as biting nails or opening packaging with your teeth are best avoided. With good oral hygiene and regular check-ups, porcelain veneers can last many years. The number of veneers, the planned shade and whether whitening of adjacent teeth is needed first are agreed before treatment so the overall result looks balanced and natural.
