A dental crown is a custom-made cap that covers a tooth to restore its shape, strength and appearance — typically used when a tooth is badly broken down, heavily filled or has had root canal treatment and needs protecting from fracture. A bridge uses crowns on the teeth either side of a gap to carry one or more replacement teeth across the space, restoring the look and the ability to bite where a tooth has been lost.
