eMatrix uses 'sublative' fractional radiofrequency: an applicator tip with a matrix of electrodes delivers bipolar RF energy into the skin in a fractional grid pattern, creating controlled micro-zones of thermal effect beneath and within the epidermis while the surrounding untreated skin drives rapid recovery. Unlike pigment-targeting lasers, which rely on light absorption by melanin, RF energy works through controlled heating and resurfacing — making eMatrix a versatile option for mottled pigmentation, age spots, and uneven tone, including in patients where laser settings are less forgiving. The treatment effect is two-fold. First, the micro-resurfacing lifts pigmented, sun-damaged surface layers, which exfoliate as fine micro-crusts over the days following treatment. A session takes roughly 30–45 minutes with numbing cream beforehand.
