Mini abdominoplasty is a precisely targeted procedure for lower abdominal skin excess that is confined below the umbilicus. It differs from full abdominoplasty in three key ways: the navel is not moved or repositioned, the skin undermining extends only partway up the abdominal wall rather than to the rib cage, and the resulting scar is shorter — a horizontal incision placed low in the lower abdomen, well hidden beneath underwear or swimwear. The surgeon elevates the lower abdominal skin flap from its attachment points, removes the excess lower skin, and closes the incision under gentle tension. Where the tissues permit, a small degree of skin tightening can be achieved in the zone above the navel without repositioning it. If abdominal muscles are separated (diastasis recti) or a hernia is present, these can be addressed through the same access, though the repair is limited to the lower portion of the rectus where the incision provides adequate access. The combination of mini abdominoplasty with liposuction — lipoabdominoplasty — is frequently chosen to address both skin excess in the lower pole and residual fat in the flanks or upper abdomen. Liposuction is performed first to sculpt the surrounding areas, and the skin is then excised and closed.
