The core diabetes blood panel typically includes fasting plasma glucose (FPG), which measures blood sugar after an overnight fast of at least 8 hours, and glycated haemoglobin (HbA1c), which reflects average blood glucose levels over the preceding 2 to 3 months. HbA1c is widely used for both diagnosis and ongoing monitoring of glycaemic control in established diabetes.

For patients where fasting glucose or HbA1c results are borderline or inconclusive, the oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) provides a dynamic assessment. You will consume a standardised glucose drink and have blood drawn at intervals over 2 hours, revealing how well your body responds to a glucose load — the key measure for diagnosing prediabetes and gestational diabetes.
