Type
Shock Wave Therapy
Duration
20 min
Non-invasive extracorporeal shockwave therapy (ESWT) for chronic tendinopathies, plantar fasciitis, Achilles tendinopathy, tennis elbow, and other musculoskeletal overuse conditions. Delivered by an orthopaedic specialist.
Apex Sports Clinic offers extracorporeal shockwave therapy (ESWT) as a first-line non-surgical intervention for a wide range of chronic musculoskeletal and tendon conditions. The treatment uses high-energy acoustic waves delivered via a handheld device applied directly over the affected area, with conductive gel ensuring efficient wave transmission. ESWT stimulates the body's natural healing cascade — promoting neovascularisation, collagen synthesis, and cellular repair in damaged tendon and fascial tissue. Sessions at Apex run 15–20 minutes each, and a typical treatment course involves one session per week for 3–6 weeks, with cumulative improvement building across sessions. Conditions regularly treated include plantar fasciitis and heel spurs, Achilles tendinopathy, patellar tendinopathy (jumper's knee), tennis elbow and golfer's elbow, rotator cuff tendinopathy, greater trochanteric pain syndrome, myofascial trigger points, and shin splints. The procedure requires no anaesthesia and no downtime — patients resume daily activities immediately. Mild redness, temporary swelling, or bruising at the treatment site may occur and typically resolve within a few days. ESWT at Apex is administered under the clinical oversight of Dr Foo Gen Lin, ensuring appropriate patient selection and integration with any complementary physiotherapy or injection-based care. It is not suitable for patients with blood clotting disorders, active infections at the treatment site, pregnancy, or implanted electronic devices near the treatment area.
