Type
PRP/PRF Therapy
Duration
1 hour
Image-guided PRP injections using concentrated growth factors from the patient's own blood to accelerate healing of tendons, ligaments, muscles, and arthritic joints. Performed by an orthopaedic surgeon at Novena.
Apex Sports Clinic offers platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy as a regenerative injection treatment for musculoskeletal injuries and degenerative joint conditions. The procedure begins with a standard blood draw from the patient's arm; the blood is then processed in a centrifuge to concentrate the platelets — which contain a high density of growth factors including PDGF, TGF-β, VEGF, and IGF-1 — into a PRP preparation. This concentrate is injected directly into the affected tissue under ultrasound guidance to ensure precise placement. PRP's growth factors stimulate the body's natural tissue repair mechanisms, promoting collagen production and cellular regeneration in areas with poor intrinsic blood supply such as tendons and cartilage. At Apex, PRP is used for a broad range of conditions: tendon injuries including tennis elbow, Achilles tendinopathy, patellar tendinopathy, and plantar fasciitis; ligament injuries such as ACL and MCL tears and ankle sprains; muscle injuries including hamstring, quadriceps, and calf strains; and osteoarthritis of the knee, hip, and shoulder. The full procedure — blood collection, centrifugation, PRP preparation, and injection — takes 30–60 minutes. Mild swelling, soreness, or stiffness at the injection site is expected for several days post-treatment; strenuous activity should be avoided during this period. Pain relief and tissue improvement typically develop progressively over weeks, with most patients requiring 1–3 sessions per year depending on their condition and response. All PRP injections at Apex are performed by Dr Foo Gen Lin, an FRCSEd and FAMS orthopaedic surgeon, ensuring specialist-level clinical decision-making and injection technique.
