About this treatment
Acne is driven by four interlocking factors: excess sebum, blocked follicles, Cutibacterium acnes overgrowth and inflammation. Light-based therapy attacks the bacterial and inflammatory arms directly — a useful option for clients who cannot tolerate, or do not want, systemic medication, and as an accelerator alongside topical regimens.
How IPL helps acne
C. acnes bacteria accumulate porphyrins as a metabolic by-product. Blue-shifted light wavelengths excite these porphyrins into producing reactive oxygen within the bacterium itself — destroying it from inside the follicle without antibiotics, and therefore without resistance concerns. Preparation required
Disclose all acne medication — oral isotretinoin requires a wash-out before light treatment. No tanning for 4 weeks before. Arrive with clean skin, no makeup. Severe cystic acne will be assessed for combined dermatological management.
