Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty)

Surgical correction of drooping upper eyelids and under-eye fat pads at AMEM's Zlín surgical centre — the only AMEM branch where plastic operations are performed. The procedure is carried out by plastic surgeon MUDr. Hana Skeřilová under local injection anaesthesia, takes about 90 minutes, and addresses heavy, tired-looking eyes, reduced upper visual field and visible fat bags. Excess skin and fat are removed through incisions hidden in the natural eyelid crease (upper lids) or just under the lash line (lower lids), closed with fine sutures that are removed around day 7. Most patients return to light office work by day 3; bruising and swelling typically settle within two weeks, with the final result assessed at three months.

Blepharoplasty is one of the most frequently performed and most effective facial aesthetic operations for both women and men. Sagging upper eyelids narrow the visual field and make the whole face look older and more tired — a problem that no cream or non-surgical treatment can fully resolve once genuine skin excess has developed. **How the operation is performed at AMEM Zlín:** The procedure is ambulatory — you walk in and out the same day. Both eyes are always operated in one session. The surgeon first marks the section of skin to be removed, then disinfects and numbs the area with injected local anaesthetic; you remain awake and the operation itself does not hurt. Excess skin and protruding fat pads are removed, and the wound is closed with fine surgical suture material. The site is then cleaned and covered with sterile strips. Upper-lid scars sit in the natural crease and lower-lid scars just below the lashes, so once matured they are nearly invisible. **Recovery:** You must be driven home after surgery — do not drive or walk home alone. Expect swelling and bruising for several days; rest and cold compresses are essential for the first 4 days. Sutures are removed at a check-up around day 7. Wear dark sunglasses outdoors, avoid increased physical activity for a week, and from week 3 begin gentle massage and moisturising of the scars as instructed. Light office work is usually possible from day 3.
