A small plastic surgery procedure that permanently shortens the space between the nose and the upper lip, lifting and everting a thin or elongated upper lip so it appears fuller and more sensual — without any filler volume. The bullhorn technique removes a precise strip of skin just under the nostril sill (shaped like bull horns, hence the name), hiding the fine scar in the natural shadow of the nose base. Unlike hyaluronic fillers, which add volume that gradually resorbs, the lip lift changes lip position and proportion permanently. Performed under local anaesthesia by plastic surgeon MUDr. Hana Skeřilová at the Zlín surgical suite.
With age — or simply by anatomy — the philtrum (the area between nose and upper lip) can be long, rolling the upper lip inward so it looks thin and flat, with little visible red lip when the face is relaxed. Repeated filler injections can compensate volume but cannot shorten the philtrum; over-filling often produces an unnatural 'duck' profile. The bullhorn lip lift solves the underlying proportion. **How it works:** A bullhorn-shaped strip of skin is removed directly beneath the base of the nose. When the wound edges are closed, the upper lip is drawn upward — shortening the philtrum, rolling the red lip slightly outward and increasing visible tooth show, which is a strong marker of a youthful smile. The scar sits in the junction between nose and lip where it matures into a fine, barely perceptible line. **The procedure at AMEM Zlín:** Performed under local injection anaesthesia in roughly an hour; you remain awake and the procedure itself does not hurt. Fine sutures are removed at around one week. Swelling and tightness of the upper lip are normal for the first days; most clients are socially presentable within a week and the final, settled result is judged at 2–3 months. **Combination options:** The lip lift can be combined with conservative hyaluronic lip filling (e.g. Restylane Kysse or Kairax Fine, offered at the clinic) once healed, for clients who want both improved proportion and added volume. **Contraindications:** acute infection (including active herpes simplex), pregnancy and breastfeeding, clotting disorders or blood-thinning medication, allergy to local anaesthetics. Suitability, scar placement and expected outcome are discussed at the surgical consultation.
