CT Scan
Duration
20 min
A CT scan of the chest that images the lungs, airways, mediastinum, heart contour and chest wall in fine detail. Within Altoa's oncology cancer-screening programs, CT chest is offered as an add-on to extend lung and thoracic assessment beyond the standard chest X-ray. CT uses X-rays and computer reconstruction for fast, high-resolution thoracic imaging; Altoa books and escorts you to an accredited partner facility, with a radiologist issuing the written report.
CT of the chest produces detailed cross-sectional images of the lungs, bronchi, mediastinum, pleura, heart contour, great vessels and chest wall, with far greater sensitivity for lung nodules and parenchymal disease than a plain chest X-ray. It is requested to characterise nodules, investigate cough, breathlessness or abnormal X-ray findings, screen higher-risk individuals for lung cancer, and assess the thoracic component of a cancer work-up. In Altoa's cancer-screening programs for men and women, the standard chest assessment is a chest X-ray, and CT chest is offered as a 2 500 Kč add-on (alongside CT abdomen and CT pelvis) when deeper thoracic imaging is warranted. The coordinator books the study at a partner facility — Nemocnice Hořovice (AKESO) or Multiscan Pardubice — and escorts you. The scan itself is quick, typically acquiring in under a minute once you are positioned; you lie on the table, raise your arms, and hold your breath briefly while the table moves through the gantry. Depending on the indication, intravenous iodinated contrast may be used to assess vessels and mediastinal structures, which requires checking kidney function and allergy history. Because CT uses ionising radiation, it is reserved for indications where its detail is clinically justified, and low-dose protocols are used where appropriate. The partner radiologist interprets the study and issues a written report, which the coordinating oncologist or specialist can review with you. Preparation: bring your referral and any prior chest imaging; disclose pregnancy, contrast allergy or kidney impairment if contrast is planned. Findings should be interpreted alongside the clinical picture by the reviewing physician.
