CT Scan
Duration
20 min
A CT scan of the abdomen imaging the liver, pancreas, kidneys, spleen, bowel and other organs in cross-section. Within Altoa's oncology cancer-screening programs, CT abdomen is an add-on that extends the assessment beyond the standard abdominal ultrasound. CT uses X-rays and computer reconstruction for fast, detailed abdominal imaging, often with intravenous contrast; Altoa books and escorts you to an accredited partner facility and returns a radiologist's written report.
CT of the abdomen produces detailed cross-sectional images of the liver, gallbladder, pancreas, spleen, kidneys, adrenal glands, bowel and the abdominal vasculature and lymph nodes. It is used to characterise organ lesions, investigate abdominal pain, stage and follow up cancers, and assess findings that ultrasound cannot fully resolve. In Altoa's cancer-screening programs, abdominal ultrasound is the first-line organ survey, and CT abdomen is offered as a 2 500 Kč add-on (alongside CT chest and pelvis) when more detailed cross-sectional imaging is warranted — for example to map a suspicious finding or complete a staging work-up. The coordinator books the study at a partner facility — Nemocnice Hořovice (AKESO) or the Multiscan oncology-radiology centre in Pardubice — and escorts you on the day. Abdominal CT often uses intravenous iodinated contrast, and sometimes oral contrast, to distinguish organs, vessels and bowel; you may be asked to fast beforehand, and kidney function and contrast-allergy history are checked before contrast is given. The scan acquires quickly once you are positioned — you lie on the table and follow brief breath-hold instructions as it moves through the gantry. Because CT uses ionising radiation, it is requested when its detail is clinically justified. The partner radiologist interprets the study and issues a written report, which the coordinating oncologist or specialist can review with you. Preparation: bring your referral, prior imaging and relevant blood results; fast if instructed; disclose pregnancy, contrast allergy, diabetes medication or kidney impairment. Findings should be interpreted alongside the clinical picture by the reviewing physician.
